Pah Wongso Pendekar Boediman (1940)
Pah Wongso Pendekar Boediman (literally Pah Wongso the Cultured Warrior) is a 1940 comedy film from the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia). Directed and produced by Jo Eng Sek, it followed a nut seller named Pah Wongso (L. V. Wijnhamer Jr) as he investigates a murder. A commercial success, Pah Wongso Pendekar Boediman capitalised on Wijnhamer's popularity in the ethnic Chinese community as a social worker. It was advertised as the colony's first detective film.
